All Roads Lead Home

“It is the perfect idea of what you want college to be,” says Ohio Alpha Nicole Schneider about Ohio University (OU). Growing up just a few hours away, Nicole was not sure this was where she would end up for college. But after learning about the top ranking journalism school and participating in a campus visit, it was an easy decision for her. “It is incredible – I cannot imagine going anywhere else,” she says.

Nicole loved the idea of what the school could do for her future, especially since she was encouraged to get involved the moment she stepped onto campus. Nicole aspires to be a news anchor or a political analyst on a TV show. So not only is she getting a top-notch education from OU’s Scripps College of Communication, but she has also become involved in Student Senate, OU’s student government.

Her desire to become more involved stems from Nicole’s first Homecoming experience when she acted as the delegate for Pi Phi. She had the opportunity to meet other members in other fraternity and sorority chapters and their delegates. As a Homecoming delegate, Nicole worked primarily with Fraternity and Sorority Life,. But later, if she chose to serve as a student senator, she would be serving the entire campus. So Nicole decided to step up, to become a leader, and serve as a member of Student Senate. Today, she currently serves as the Director of Internship within the organization.

This year’s Homecoming theme was “All roads lead home” and when we talked, Nicole was actively preparing for the week’s activities. The week included events like the Homecoming Parade, Ohio Bobcat Bash, and culminated in the football game on Saturday afternoon.

As this busy young woman was running around, she thought about one of her favorite quotes: “Remind yourself why you’re involved and why you’re doing things.” Nicole is beaming school spirit, so it is obvious she loves OU very much. I know Homecoming was a great success due to all her hard work!
