Nevada Alpha Cathie Clinch has experience Pi Beta Phi sisterhood beyond the borders of her chapter, her home state of California and even the United States.
Cathie’s Pi Phi story began when she transferred to the University of Nevada from junior college. Cathie had been heavily involved in Girl Scouts for 12 years and joining another women’s group seemed a bit daunting. But, with her father’s encouragement, Cathie participated in “rush” since she was starting a new school as a sophomore and didn’t know anyone. Cathie shared she comes from a long line of Greek women … 11 to be exact. But, they all pledged Alpha Phi, and the University of Nevada didn’t have an Alpha Phi chapter at the time. Being different was ok with Cathie. She clicked with the Pi Phi women immediately. “It was a game changer in my life,” Cathie said.
After college Cathie worked in Reno and participated in alumnae life. She also met her husband, Brock, during that time, and a year after they were married they moved to Houston. Cathie was never worried about the move, because her mother always said there would always be “Greek” women wherever she landed. And … her mother was right. Cathie quickly became acclimated with the Cypress Creek Alumnae Club and served as Treasurer.
That move was the first of many for Cathie. She and Brock moved four more times before landing in Vancouver, British Columbia for the last 13 years. Cathie served on alumnae club Executive Boards, as an Alumnae Advisory Committee member and as Canadian Philanthropies Committee Chairman along the way. “Even when we lived in Santiago, Chile, I found Pi Phi,” Cathie said. “There were three Pi Phis in our book club.”
