As a military family, Oklahoma Beta Connie Alexander lived all over the country. In several places where they were stationed, often not knowing anyone in their new city, Connie got involved in local alumnae club. When the women in the clubs discovered she was from Oklahoma Beta, they were impressed, knowing the reputation of the chapter. This always left Connie with a wonderful feeling and with a sense of responsibility to be a strong representative of her chapter.

After 40 years working as an English teacher, Connie retired and was looking for something different to do. That’s when she decided to become a “House Mom.” And with the wonderful memories she had at Oklahoma State University (OSU), it was an easy decision to come back Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is currently in her seventh year as the House Director for Sigma Nu Fraternity at OSU.

On the day of my visit, we had a special treat. Sigma Nu and Pi Phi are partnered for Varsity Revue, an all campus variety show held in the spring. We were able to watch part of their rehearsal and the talent of the participants wowed me. I am happy to report the pair placed third at the performance this year!

The Fraternity and Sorority Community is very strong and Connie knows this well from her own experiences. “My sisters and I kept in touch by mail for years,” Connie said. “We kept that up for a long time; now we keep in touch by phone and email.”

Connie has had the privilege to give the eulogy for two pledges sisters. She noted how humbling it was to speak on behalf of her sisters. For Connie, it was another example of how much the people you meet in college mean to you. She always quick to remind the graduating collegians how important it is to stay in communication with your college friends.
