If It Doesn’t Scare You, It Isn’t Heavy Enough

Ontario Beta Jennifer Ball attributes her involvement at University of Western Ontario to joining Pi Phi. Not only did she become the Vice President of Philanthropy for the chapter, but she is also Media Director for the Filipino Club, a member of the French club and is a volunteer for the Toronto Buffer Festival. Whew, what can she not do?

I had to ask Jennifer, with so many different interests and passions, what drives her? Jennifer’s answer was simple: she does not like to be bound to one thing.

One thing Jennifer is looking forward to this upcoming year is renewing her passion for powerlifting. That’s right, Jennifer is also a powerlifter. Powerlifting is a strength sports comprised of three lifts: squat, bench press and deadlift. Jennifer began the sport in high school when she learned her dad’s friend ran a club. She competed in Regional and Provincial meets, which Jennifer says she did “okay in.” What was more important to her was that it was such a good experience. Although it has been a few years, as she focused more on the transition into collegiate life, Jennifer is ready to get back into a training program. Luckily there is a college and university level competition in February and Jennifer has her sights set on competing in it.

“Find something you’re passionate about, and don’t stop until you reach your goal,” Jennifer said. It looks like she is truly following her own advice. Way to go! We’re wishing you well in your training and competition, Jennifer!
