Find Your Path to Leadership

“Everything the university offers, I have done it,” admits senior Kelly Rowe, Ohio Theta. The sisters of Ohio Theta respect her so I wanted to get to know her and I am glad I did.

Kelly was heavily influenced by her Big Sister, Ohio Theta Tiffany Mitchell, to take on leadership roles throughout Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Kelly started in Pi Beta Phi when she was elected as Vice President of Administration, which helped boost her confidence in speaking in front of other people. She had been so comfortable with her role that she put herself up for the running as Chapter President. As many of us know, life does not always offer a straight path to get what we want. Kelly endured personal circumstances that had her question if or how she wanted to serve her chapter.

Months down the road, her career as a leader took a turn and she was pushed to serve in a new way. Again, as her Big Sister had done in the past, Tiffany’s role as the former Panhellenic President seemed appealing to Kelly. She was slated and elected to be Vice President of Standards. The experience was so rewarding that Kelly remained motivated to focus on the entire Fraternity and Sorority community and is now serving as the Panhellenic President.

Kelly wants to manage her team well and never wants to overstep the other positions. As a Panhellenic Council, they do have guidelines, as set by the National Panhellenic Council Manual of Information, but are also able to adapt things to fit their campus. Kelly believes this gives them the opportunity to find what they and the BGSU community need to succeed.

Kelly has also come back to leading within Pi Phi as New Member Coordinator (NMC). At their recent New Member Retreat, she pushed the New Members to answer questions like: What do you like about yourself? What is your biggest accomplishment? What’s your biggest challenge or struggle? The session helped the New Members learn a lot of about each other, but also helped Kelly to open her eyes to them. She is proud to lead 22 New Members in what she feels is one of the most important positions in the Fraternity. Pi Phi is lucky to have such a dynamic leader as Kelly to call our sister and to help cultivate a new generation of Fraternity women.
