During my visit to Pennsylvania Gamma, I met member after member who mentioned they were part of the Dickinson College Student Senate. One of the up and coming leaders is freshman Mary Hinton.
Mary served as a Student Senator for the 2015–2016 Academic Year. As a member of Student Senate, their weekly meetings were spent discussing important student issues like the breakout of tuition funds, academic programs offered, changes in curriculum and the planning for class events. Student Senate has allowed Mary to meet more students as well as be connected with faculty and staff, which is helpful on Dickson’s small campus.
Mary had such a great experience that she wanted a more active role. In April, Mary ran and was elected President by her classmates — the class of 2019! As President of Class Council, she will be the voice of the sophomore class on the Senate and to college administration. Mary will use her life motto, “Be someone that makes everybody feel like a somebody” to continue to make an impact at Dickinson College in this new role. I cannot wait to see what she will do leading her class this next year!
This summer, Mary is interning at the Massachusetts State Capitol with Governor Charlie Baker. She will be working in outreach in the Office of Constituent Services and hopes to help people and make an impact. All of this experience is bound to help Mary in her future career in foreign services or working on The Hill in Washington D.C.
