For junior Hailey Hyde and sophomore Madisan Bryant finding a home in a sorority had to fit in with their already busy campus involvements.
Madisan, who is involved in the Leadership Cohort and Big Brothers Big Sisters, said, “My mom is a Pi Phi, but she really wanted Greek life to be an experience of my own.”
“This is a hard time for young women, an exploratory time with no stopping,” agrees Hailey, who is active in the Business Leadership program and music department. For both women, it was important to find a place where the women were highly esteemed all over campus — that’s when they found the women of Pi Beta Phi at University of Puget Sound. Chapter members represent on Associated Students of the University of Puget Sound, Campus Visit Program, Student Alumni Association, student organizations, athletic teams and performing arts.
Being at a college that values Social Justice, the members of Washington Gamma are proud to be at the forefront of making a difference on campus. Recently, the chapter announced a diversity working group to create an open forum on campus. They hope the forum will allow their peers to express opinions and have a safe dialogue about things affecting college students. One of the first areas to discuss are the negative stereotypes surrounding Fraternity and Sorority life. Hailey and Madisan are proud that Pi Phi is spearheading this conversation to change the narrative.
“You can see the success of Pi Phi and the support we receive from AAC, Headquarters and visitors,” says Hailey, “I plan to be an involved upper classman with an active presence for the younger women. I want them to take advantage of all that Pi Phi has to offer.” Both women agree their membership in Pi Beta Phi has enhanced their experiences at University of Puget Sound.
