Georgia Alpha Caroline Melton is the Vice President of Fraternity Development and she helped plan the Atlanta-area Founders’ Day celebration I attended in April. It was obvious how much her sisters love her and appreciate the work she did. Another thing that was obvious, how proud her mother, Florida Beta Pamela Jenkins Melton, is of all that Caroline does.
Pamela is an active member of the Atlanta Alumnae Club. Caroline shares that when her mom moved to Atlanta, she was lucky enough to have a few of her Florida State University (FSU) sisters move to the area, so they remained close. In fact, they often have a FSU reunion weekend and act as if they never left each other.
When Caroline went through formal recruitment at the University of Georgia, her mom was supportive of her making her own decision. It was during philanthropy round Caroline knew she had to be a Pi Phi. “The Pi Phis genuinely cared about their philanthropy,” Caroline remembers. It was at this point she “embraced the essence of Pi Phi.”
Pi Phi has given Caroline friendships like the ones modeled by her mother. One of her favorite things is taking two or three cars to the local RaceTrac convenience store to purchase slushies. Then the women sip their slushes and hang out with one another on the front porch rocking chairs. They put their phones away, share stories or listen to music. It has become a tradition for the Georgia Alpha Pi Phi sisters.
“Really cherish every moment with your sisters,” Caroline said. “Make memories, be in the moment and be present with one another.”
