Lessons from Your Sisters

In search of a member of the Georgia Alpha Chapter that had a unique story for the Ring Ching Roadshow blog, many sisters immediately nominated Georgia Alpha Taylor O’Quinn. She read about my adventures in The Arrow and looked at the schedule online, but did not see Georgia on the map. “When they told us, I was SO excited that our chapter was going to be recognized nationally through the Ring Ching Roadshow,” says Taylor. She has been looking forward to my arrival in Athens, Georgia with the most genuine excitement for my visit.

Taylor speaks highly about her membership in Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, especially about the support she has received from her sisters. I know how great it is to meet young women that care about you and want you to do well, just as Taylor has described her sisters at the University of Georgia.

Recently, Taylor was going through the process of interviewing for externships and shared how her sisters helped in the preparation. Some helped her formulate answers to potential questions she would be asked. Her roommate would act as an interviewer giving Taylor practice questions and provide feedback on her responses. The interview tip that stood out the most to Taylor was to use strong affirmative responses. Taylor tended to respond with “I think I would be good for this position” but was coached to change to “I know I would be good for this position” as a way to show she knew what she was talking about.

I am proud to report that Taylor received an offer from an accounting firm just 20 minutes from her hometown! This summer, she will be in Jacksonville, Florida to see if the firm is a good fit. I know Taylor is grateful to her Pi Phi sisters for helping her prepare for such a great opportunity.
