Since high school, Mississippi Alpha Lindsay Rolph dreamed of becoming an interior designer. Today, she has worked for various designers in Louisiana and Texas, and has found her niche in new home building designing. Lindsay works with clients to make sure their homes fit their lifestyles. Her projects include anything from cabinet and closet design to drapery design, and they often lead to Lindsay decorating her clients’ homes for the holidays.
Last year, the owner of Lindsay’s firm decided she wanted to sell the business. But she wanted one of her designers to buy the business to continue her legacy. With mom and dad’s support, Lindsay became the owner of The Designer Source, an interior design firm, in Sugarland, Texas.
It has been a big transition for Lindsay to own her own business, since she is used to managing showroom purchases, which is a much different responsibility. She is now experiencing a totally different aspect of the business with accounting, paperwork, contracts and marketing. As expected, Lindsay has had some struggles on the business side, but nothing out of the ordinary from the day-to-day activities of a business owner.
As a new entrepreneur, I wondered what advice she may have for us. “Ask people for their advice,” says Lindsay, “and really know you don’t have to do everything yourself. You can delegate tasks to make things happen easier and faster.”
With all that she has going with the business, it is true dedication that Lindsay is serving in her third term as President of the Katy-West Houston, Texas, Alumnae Club. She has been in a leadership position for most of her Pi Phi life and would not have it any other way. Lindsay enjoys sharing sisterhood bonds everywhere she goes, and in Houston, that’s a lot of ground to cover!
