“My hardest challenge recently? Baking macaroons. Talk about stressful!”
For Missouri Gamma Kaleigh Jurgensmeyer, challenging herself didn’t always come naturally. At age 18, Kaleigh embarked on her college career at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. She chose the school for the small, welcoming atmosphere. Drury was close to home. Drury was comfortable.
But during her freshman year, Kaleigh found herself on her first adventure. She became a member of Pi Beta Phi, and soon the young freshman was slated for the role of Historian. “It forced me to break out of my shell,” remembers Kaleigh. “I never saw myself in a leadership role, but I was ready to accept the challenge.”
As Kaleigh became acclimated in her role, it was apparent it was the first stepping stone to more leadership positions in the future. She enjoyed the individual responsibility of having a role in the legacy of her chapter, and was ready for more. As a sophomore and junior, Kaleigh lead Missouri Gamma as Chapter President. As a junior and senior, she mentored the incoming pledge class as the New Member Coordinator.
Kaleigh’s momentum did not culminate with her collegiate experience. That same fearless leader is continuing to embrace her adventurous spirit as she transitions into life as an adult. She is determined to begin a career that will allow her to continue to grow as a mentor. She is also actively seeking out new challenges, such as baking, rock climbing and sky diving.
“Not only did my involvement in Pi Phi build my confidence as a leader, but it taught me the importance of taking advantage of new opportunities” Kaleigh said. “There is so much you can learn about yourself just by accepting the challenge.”
And as for Kaleigh’s next adventure? “I’ve always wanted to write a book!” she said with ambition. It is obvious the sky is the limit for Kaleigh, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
