As we began taking photos at the chapter house, there was definitely one member that stood out: she was dressed in a period piece. Theater and costuming are hobbies of Illinois Iota Quinn McGavin when she is not in classes earning credits towards a degree in Social Work. She is used to creating a lot of clothing pieces for Pi Phi activities. Quinn decided to forgo the traditional neon colors for something a little bit different.

The outfit was created for an 80s themed day during last fall’s spirit week. While all other chapter members dressed in 1980s, Quinn chose to dress to the 1880s. She used an overskirt from a past civil war costume, went to a dollar store to buy an Easter bonnet, and utilized a table runner for a belt. All pieces were thrown together to create a unique outfit to celebrate the 80s. “Pi Phi made me more of an outgoing person,” Quinn said, “it brought me out of my shell.”

Quinn truly enjoys all aspects of Pi Phi life – everything from participating in service projects to living in the chapter house. Most of all, it is the relationships she developed, including her best friend Maggie Amberg and Little Sister Heather Trausch, Illinois Iotas, that she cherishes the most. Going into her senior year, Quinn hopes to remain involved in the chapter by serving as Vice President of Housing and interacting with the New Members. She values how Pi Phi was the time in her life she figured out who she is as a person and a woman. Quinn hopes to be that same type of mentor to the women in her chapter because she knows the Pi Phi family is there for her whenever she needs them.
