Visiting new campuses during the fall is one of my favorite things. It is even better when I get to spend time with Pi Phis who love hearing all about the history of our sisterhood and sharing their chapter traditions. While every chapter is a little different, we are all rooted in the same core values. On a balmy day in October, I was able to spend a little time with the Ohio Beta Chapter at The Ohio State University (OSU). Between a Cookie Shine, a tour of the chapter house and some amazing sisterhood stories, I had the opportunity to talk to Ohio Betas Hannah and Rachel Ritter, two sisters who call OSU home.
Although the sisters have differing academic interests, Hannah is studying Political Science and Rachel is studying Finance, both felt Pi Phi was a natural fit. Both sisters have held leadership roles in Pi Beta Phi and are constantly making sure that they are living their personal and Pi Phi values. When first meeting the women of the chapter, both sisters noticed that the members were both genuine and could potentially become lifelong friends. Both sisters also noted that Bid Day was VERY overwhelming, in a good way— but also one of the best nights of their collegiate careers. While the sisters might not have been New Members at the same time, they both remembered with joy the moment they grabbed their new sisters hands and entered the Pi Phi house for the first time as members! It was a day filled with finding future best friends and being welcomed into a sisterhood they knew would stay with them for life.
When asked if they had any advice for future Pi Phis, both sisters exclaimed that you should always get involved. Between living in the house and holding leadership roles in the chapter, Hannah and Rachel have found their home away from home. Both women are very proud of the work that they have done to help grow and define Ohio Beta. One extra perk of having a biological sister in your chapter? Mom’s Day and Dad’s Day are double the fun!
Thanks, great article.
