I was introduced to sophomore Cassidy Gobran shortly after she found out she was slated to be the next Chapter President at the University of Minnesota. A chapter that last year won the Balfour Cup, Pi Beta Phi’s most prestigious chapter award. No pressure, right?

Not for Cassidy. While Cassidy was initially surprised where she had been slated, she was also very excited. She knew she wanted to serve in a leadership position and considers herself a natural leader. Now, that doesn’t mean she isn’t without a few fears. “Being a sophomore and a young Chapter President, I am worried about being able to command a room full of older members,” Cassidy said. “I know it will come, but the first couple of meetings are going to be a little scary.”

Cassidy has learned a tremendous amount from the outgoing Chapter President Madeline Eddy. “Maddy is so organized and keeps everything running,” Cassidy said. “She also does a great job answering member questions.” Maddy is also committed to the transition and offering her support to Cassidy and the new, younger Executive Council.

The new Executive Council for Minnesota Alpha is made up of several sophomores, a freshman and a few juniors. “We really respect one another’s opinions and are coming together as a group.” Cassidy is also looking forward to making connections with the other Chapter Presidents on campus at their retreat in January. “I think that retreat will really help tie our Greek life together.”
