We stood in a circle in the Todd Hall conference room on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University passing around a large cookie and sharing some of our favorite Pi Phi memories with our sisters. There is no better way to start Spirit Week than with a Pi Phi Cookie Shine. Kentucky Gamma Ashley Sizemore could not agree more as this is one of her favorite traditions we have.
Ashley’s desire for being a part of something bigger has helped Ashley grow into the leader she is today. Her big sister Lexie Robinson and past roommate Riley Stewart both previously served as New Member Coordinators. With her outgoing personality, intense passion for the Fraternity and likeability, they both encouraged Ashley to apply for the position they both held. It was such a joy for Ashley to be appointed into the role.
As the chapter prepares for primary recruitment, she is preparing for the New Members. Ashley is reserving meeting spaces, refreshing on Pi Phi history and thinking of icebreakers to help everyone get to know each other. She is ready to get to know the new members and welcome them into our sisterhood. Ashley exclaims, “I am excited to be part of their journey.”
Part of her excitement stems from the love and encouragement she has felt herself. Pi Phi has taught Ashley that she has a great support system at Eastern Kentucky University – these sisters have been with her through her best and worst. She knows she has great sisters that are here any time of day that she needs it — and she loves it. “I did not have that kind of support growing up, so it is a nice thing to have coming to college,” she said.
