Standing at the front of the room, she demands the attention of the crowd. There is a stir in the area as she begins, “We will start the bidding at…” and the crowd holds their attention until she says, “Going once, going twice, SOLD!”
Growing up in nearby Albermarle, North Carolina Delta Kelly Williams has deep roots in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. After graduating from North Carolina State University, she decided to attend Carolina Auction Academy at Stanly Community College. It is while in school that she met her husband and moved to the Charlotte area.
Her husband’s family owns Eastway Wrecker and Auction Services, the largest towing company in the area. They work closely with many organizations including the Department of Revenue and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Kelly is the lead Auctioneer and she manages contracts for towing and auction.
Once a month, auctions open to the public. They auction anything from TVs, iPads, laptops, automobiles and more – she sees a little bit of everything. People will line up early with their yard chairs and coolers to bid on the items. “It’s entertainment, “ Kelly proclaims.
When I asked what one of her favorite or more unusual auction items was, it was not where I thought she was going. Her answer: 44 pairs of Air Jordan shoes.
Kelly is an active member for Auctioneers Association of North Carolina, currently serving on the Board of Directors for the group. In 2015, she was recognized by Stanly Community College and was honored with their Outstanding Alumni Award, given to alumni for their contributions to the College, the community and their profession. That’s such an amazing recognition – we’re proud of you Kelly!
