Courtney Zych’s older sister Bailey is a junior and a Pi Phi at the University of Nebraska. When Courtney fell in love with the University’s atmosphere and energy on a college visit her senior year, she knew she too would go through recruitment.
Courtney immediately felt at home in the Nebraska Beta Chapter house. “Everyone was so welcoming,” Courtney said. “Everyone has a story … something to share.”
Courtney volunteered throughout high school and wanted to continue in college. “Giving back to the community is really important to me,” Courtney said. “And, I love how Pi Phi gives back not just with dollars but through actual service. It is hard to manage time volunteering, working and studying. But, in a sorority you get to do it all with your best friends.”
Saturday, August 22, Courtney’s wish was granted. She was a Pi Beta Phi.
Even as a New Member, Courtney has a good understanding of what being part of Pi Beta Phi means. “First you are apart of it and then it becomes a part of you,” Courtney shared. “It starts with receiving your pin, and then it stays with you for the rest of your life as an alumna.”
Only after being part of the chapter for two weeks, Courtney knows she already has Pi Phi angels looking after her. “The older members are taking us under their wings and offering help and support,” Courtney said.
When asked if there have been any surprises so far, Courtney quickly shares how easily everyone gets along. She knew she would make friends, but didn’t know how quickly she would have so many new sisters.
