Senior Simone Klein, New York Delta, can be proud of what she has accomplished at Cornell University. Immediately after joining Pi Beta Phi, Simone served as Vice President of Communications. Sharing the news of the chapter and representing Pi Phi on the Panhellenic Council (PHC) was a great way to connect with alumnae, the Fraternity internationally and get more involved in the University community.
These involvements lead to Simone taking on the position of Vice President of Programming for PHC. It has been one of the most fulfilling roles because Simone has connected with the University community in a larger way, including making strong connections with school administrators.
This past March, Simone helped put on Wellness Week, which focused on education and advocacy around women’s issues and mental health. The week showcased fitness opportunities in the community, like yoga and spin classes. “It was great to see Panhellenic members supportive and taking part in bringing the community together,” says Simone.
It was important for PHC to host this event because nearly one-third of the undergraduate student body is a member of a fraternity or sorority organization. PHC represents the largest network of women on campus, so it is vital PHC play an active role and try to make Cornell a more safe and ideal experience for that group of women, Simone explains.
On the Friday before my visit, Simone served on a committee that hosted the inaugural One Greek Experience (1GxP) Kick-Off event. The event was a carnival and BBQ meant to introduce freshman and other new students to Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at Cornell. Simone believes nearly 1500 people came through the event – wow!
