It is move-in day at the University of Cincinnati (UC) so I maneuvered through campus around carts of goods, reluctant parents and exuberant college students. Aww, it’s nice it is to be back on a college campus.
“I wake up every morning and am excited to go to school,” Ohio Kappa Kelly Kauffmann said. Kelly was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and loves the vibe of attending an urban college. I believe it is especially true since this is her city.
At UC, Kelly is studying communications with a marketing minor and is currently a social media intern with her hometown baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds. She works on digital marketing as well as the team’s Pinterest and Tumblr platforms. FYI — If you have ever hoped your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter post would make it on the jumbotron, Kelly can give you a few tips. She is responsible for approving and denying posts that will be shown in the ballpark.
Although she enjoys her communications role, her passion is music.
Cincinnati has a great music scene. Kelly enjoys discovering new things the music brings and, thankfully, there are a lot of live music. Additionally, the Cincinnati music festival scene is up and coming. Last June, Kelly attended the Bunbury Music Festival, which she claims was the best day ever to be surrounded by good people and good music. In a few months, Kelly will attend MidPoint Music Festival, which showcases more Indie artists. Kelly even has a high school friend playing at the show! “It gives these artists a place to play and showcase their talent,” Kelly said.
Kelly’s appreciation for music has developed over the years. Growing up, she recalled her mom singing around the house. Kelly joined her first choir in elementary school and immediately loved it. She continues to enjoy music by participating in theater and UC choir. With the explosion of the electronic dance music scene, Kelly has also begun mixing music. Kelly hopes to blend her communications major and her passion for music in a career in the music industry by working in digital content creation.
