How does one lovingly get the nickname “Pi Phi Geek” from the sisters of the Ohio Theta Chapter? Is it because one wears Pi Phi gear every day? Or is it because one loves Pi Phi history and ritual more than anyone else? Junior Kailee McAfee, who received the nickname from her sisters, thinks it may be the Pi Phi Socks she wears to every event with her white Converse and how all the sisters now know to look for the outfit.
Kailee once posted on social media “If you know me, finish this sentence: I love…” seeking remarks from her friends and is proud that most responded “Pi Phi” in the comments. Kailee always wanted to be part of something bigger than herself and Pi Phi gave her just that.
A few months ago, Kailee submitted a video of herself singing “One, Two, Three Words” and “Ring Ching Ching” to become an Acapella Angel. She was one of 12 Pi Phis chosen to go to St. Louis to record various Pi Phi songs that will be released as part of our 150th Celebration this upcoming year.
In St. Louis, Kailee met 11 sisters from various chapters as well as Music Committee Chairman Jane Bony Heiserman, California Delta, and Grand Vice President Programming Marla Neely Wulf, Kansas Beta. Kailee was excited to sit in the same boardroom that Grand Council has their meetings in which was used by the Acapella Angels to practice their songs. Their time was spent recording a number of Pi Phi songs as well as partaking in Ring Ching Roadshow’s Carpool Karaoke. What a crazy 48 hours it must have been!
Her Acapella Angel experience is relevant for Kailee’s future as she hopes to work in arts management on Broadway after graduation. What else is in Kailee’s future? Well, she jokes with her Alumnae Advisory Committee counterpart about being the future Grand President. No joke, I can see it happening.
