When senior Mackenzie Owens, Arkansas Alpha moved from Lawrence, Kansas, to Fayetteville to attend the University of Arkansas (UA), she didn’t know a soul. She heard how appreciative her mother and grandmother were of their experiences in sororities, Kappa Alpha Theta and Gamma Phi Beta respectively, at the University of Kansas. However, it was her cousin, Kansas Alpha Alex Katzfey, who really encouraged Mackenzie to participate in primary recruitment.
From Chicago to Las Vegas to Panama City, some of Mackenzie’s favorite moments have been shared with her Arkansas Alpha Pi Phi sisters traveling all over the country. This past summer she had the opportunity to work as a licensing intern with Ivanka Trump Collection in apparel, handbags and footwear in New York City. Mackenzie learned a lot about relationship building with manufactures and retailers. Arkansas Alphas KK Hudson, a photography intern at Seventeen Magazine, and Gabby Muscari, who worked at Athleta apparel and Fashion Company, would hang out with Mackenzie. The group would meet in the High Line for lunch or explore different locations of the city featured in the show Gossip Girl. How fun it is that she had a few Pi Phi sisters interning in New York too!
Mackenzie is focused on earning her MBA through an accelerated program at UA. She has recently been offered a Shopper Engagement MBA intern with Hershey, where she will remain until graduation in 2018! Mackenzie is excited to see what opportunities are available for her when she graduates, but it is evident no matter where she ends up, here Pi Phi sisters will always remain close to her.
