The chapter house looks a little different today than it did when Ohio Epsilon Sembria “Bria” Ligibel made her first visit. It is the same house Bria visited with her mother, Ohio Epsilon Sommer Wachtell Wiederhold, when she was under one year old, but today is has just a few updates and a more modern feel. Bria recalls childhood memories of being dressed up in angel costumes at the house and she has the photos to prove it!

When Bria chose to go to University of Toledo (UT), the alma mater of her mom, dad and many other relatives, it was not automatic that she would join a sorority.

When she finally made the decision to participate in recruitment as a sophomore, one would imagine the pressure Bria potentially could have felt to continue the Greek Life legacy. But she actually didn’t feel any pressure because her family wanted Bria to keep an open mind. Fortunately, she fell in love with Pi Phi because “it already felt like home.”

During the eight-week New Member period, Bria’s appreciation for the Fraternity continued to grow. She enjoyed learning the heritage of Pi Phi and getting to know the women in her New Member class. “It was really rewarding,” she said. “When I was initiated, I knew all about the chapter and was able to appreciate how special Pi Phi is.” She truly feels that the organization has enhanced her college experience.

In November, Bria was pinned by her Mom at initiation. Also in attendance were her relatives: Ohio Epsilons Rebecca Ligibel Zak, Angela Ligibel Dandar, and Colleen Dandar. Bria has no idea her family would be there – it was very emotional and very special. I am happy to report Bria is the seventh Pi Phi in her family and the sixth at Ohio Epsilon.

I am also pleased to hear each time they see each other, the Pi Phi family members get in a spirit circle singing Pi Phi songs and chants, a tradition of the Ohio Epsilon Chapter. Bria always had a good relationship with her mom and aunts, but they definitely grew closer since she is able to call them her “sisters” now, too.
