Lifelong Commitment in Spades

“I grew up with all brothers,” Nebraska Beta Linda Dobry said. “It was in Pi Phi where I found my sisters.”

Linda found her Pi Phi sisters even before she started college. Her boyfriend was older and attended the University of Nebraska. When Linda came to visit him, she stayed in the Pi Beta Phi Chapter house with friends of his. So it was very fitting Linda “officially” join the chapter a year later.

Linda’s husband was in the army and also finishing medical school. They moved often. After the two married, they moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky, and then to Pensacola, Florida, and Fort Wolters, Texas. When her husband left for Vietnam, Linda moved back to St. Paul, Nebraska, with her two small children to be closer to home. When her husband Charley returned, they moved again to Charlottesville, Virginia, where Charley completed his radiology residency.

While Linda enjoyed Virginia, she was very happy to return to Nebraska in 1969 where she could join the Omaha, Nebraska, Alumnae Club. Linda has been heavily involved in the club ever since. She has held several alumnae club officer positions and helped with countless fundraisers. She also served the Fraternity as Alumnae Province President for several years, as Chapter House Corporation President and on the Omaha Panhellenic.

Linda embodies lifelong commitment. Even though her collegiate experience was cut short due to marriage, it certainly left a lasting impact. Linda has made the most of her alumna life. She is still involved in the alumnae club today and enjoys sharing her Pi Phi membership now with her Pi Phi daughter, also a Nebraska Beta.
