From Childhood Friends to Sisters

Ohio Beta Becky Michaels Shultz has has loved Pi Phi since she first joined in 1956. As a member of Ohio Beta at The Ohio State University and Ohio Zeta at Miami University, Becky has been able to see the importance of Pi Phi in the lives of many. After being initiated by Ohio Zeta while attending Miami of University – Ohio, Becky transferred to Ohio State after two years and affiliated with the Ohio Beta Chapter. She found the transition to a new campus and chapter to be a smooth one, specifically because she had her Pi Phi sisters by her side.

Through weddings, children, divorces and moves, one thing always stayed constant in Becky’s life: her Pi Phi roots. Becky has been involved in many different alumnae clubs, including her current club in Urbana, Ohio. Outside of club life, Becky has spent years as a member of Chapter House Corporations (CHC). Serving on CHC is just another way she gives back to the Fraternity she loves.

But what has kept Becky loving Pi Phi this long? Becky explains it’s because of her friends and sisters. Becky and I met in Columbus, Ohio, during one of her trips to visit her best friend, Ohio Alpha Anne Hubbard Shambaugh, a member of the Columbus Alumnae Club. Becky and Anne have been friends since childhood. When Anne went off to college, Becky watched from afar as she joined Pi Phi. When recruitment came around for Becky, she knew she wanted to be a Pi Phi because of the love our Fraternity had shown Anne.

These friendships still bloom in Becky’s life. Between trips with Anne, and always sharing her love of Pi Phi to anyone who will listen, Becky is living her best alumna life.
